Fashion Trends and Their Effect on Society (Pakistan)
First, let's try to understand what is meant by the term fashion. You might have heard quite often this nomenclature associated with whatever is in a trend that any given or present time. In addition, fashion and trends are likely considered the same, hence it’s safe to say that whatever is in trend is taken as fashion! Now that we have established what fashion trends mean let’s discuss and how it's perceived.
Fashion trends can be anything from clothing styles to that “ jalebi baby song,” “pawri horahi hai” reenactment,” bottle cap challenges” and other main streams of these sorts. The list is never-ending. Moreover, the internet is the reason that fashion trends in today’s society take flight in the first place as the world is a global village with a web all over connecting it. Talking about as much as fashion trends can be silly, bizarre, they can be insightful and inciting. Well, you see that there are two sides of the coin, one being the eventful, playful side and the other a dark and gritty one, that no one is mostly ready to talk about, the side which is taking people away from responsibilities, religion, and culture. Let's take for an example the false advertising of skincare products that are promoting racism, hints at the idea of you being a better person by enhancing your looks to get fairer skin, if this is not racism then what is it?
Moreover speaking as Pakistani where our country's ideology is based on Islam, we too, unfortunately, tend to follow the footsteps of the west adopting unIslamic practices by following their “fashion trends” just for the sake of it being popular, and the majority of us are you doing that.
On the other hand let’s take education, for example, the one which is given in our country Pakistan, it’s more of a competitive business than proper academia and parents are trapped in this make-believe that O/A levels education for their children is somewhat superior to than what is being offered( matriculation system) because it’s a trend these days. The more these business-oriented schools keep on advertising O/A levels from classes 1 to 10 the more parents keep on getting trapped and are even ready to pay as much fee these schools demand.
However, at present, we see tobacco products which are getting quite the hype in our country, I wouldn’t take any names but the advertisements they are putting up for attracting a lot of youth and it’s getting a lot of fame and its gaining popularity these days making a fashion trend, as a result, we have a quite a number of youth consuming these products same goes for shisha and other stimulants. Not just this but just for the sake of trend we see people buying iPhone only because of the fact that iPhones are popular and fashion statement and it makes people feel somewhat entitled. Then we see a lot of zero quality content on a lot of social media platforms again just for the sake of fashion trends.
To sum it all up, it's that we should follow trends and fashion that are appropriate to our culture and not try to be who we aren’t really. It’s simple as that keep what is good and suits your culture and society and discard the rest.
